US managed care has been well documented with deficiencies in healthcare quality, exorbitant cost, disjointed, fragmented delivery of care that can lead to patient harm & breach in patient privacy. These problems arising because insurance companies are at the center of the US healthcare system, where they both finance and manage medical care. Where delivery of quality patient care takes a backseat to profit & shareholders.
Preserving and protecting the Australian Healthcare system from following that of US managed care should be atop of the agenda – allowing Doctors to retain autonomy in clinical decision making and patient care.
